HANGING A FLAT PANEL TELEVISION OVER A FIREPLACE

Plasma screens and HDTV seem to be all the rage now, the flatter the better. The flatter the TV, the more choices you have for placement. Even above a fireplace. So, just how high should you hang your flat-panel TV over your fireplace?

Here are some tips from Canadian House & Home:

• Consider having the TV installed by a professional or at least have extra help on hand to help lift the TV for mounting. Some of the larger sets weigh well over 100 lbs.

• Secure the mounting bracket to two studs for extra support.

• Test out the radiant heat that emits from your fireplace as it could greatly reduce the lifespan of your TV. Assess this by starting a fire and place your hand over the area where your TV will be mounted. If it feels considerably hotter than room temperature, you should consider placing your TV elsewhere in the room.
